I was wondering...

FAQ’s about Christmas Eve 🎄

  • Will there be a children’s Christmas program?

Yes! This year, our Faith builders youth group will be performing a special program that is built into the worship service on December 13th at 5pm and December 14th at 10am. Join us as our children share this story of “A Christmas to Believe in!”

You are also invited to join us for a brunch potluck after the Sunday service in our Knoedler Center Fellowship Hall.

  • Are the services child-friendly?

Definitely! At Advent, we believe children are important voices in the life of the church. The very first Christmas Eve was one that was likely loud and perhaps a little chaotic - and we anticipate this Christmas Eve to be much the same.

Note: Although our 5pm contemporary service will be particularly family-oriented, all three services are open to anyone and everyone. It is a joyous blessing to have children in worship with us.

We also offer a nursery with a viewing window, and an attached nursing room available if you need it.

  • What time is the candlelight service?

This year we are offering THREE special candlelight Christmas Eve services:

    • 1 p.m. traditional service - perfect for those who would like an early service to attend! This service will include traditional hymns, scripture readings, and celebration of Emmanuel - God with Us.
    • 5p.m. contemporary service - a service perfect for families looking for a service with something for the whole family to enjoy! Our band will play contemporary Christmas tunes and we will hear the story of God’s love made real.
    • 7p.m. formal traditional service - we plan to pull out all the stops for this year’s evening candlelight service! This service will include traditional hymns, scripture readings, and celebration of Emmanuel - God with Us.

All three services will include the candlelight singing of Silent Night.

  • How long are the services?

Typically, our worship services last about an hour long, and we expect the 1pm and 5pm services to follow that model.

The 7pm formal traditional service will likely be a little longer, perhaps an hour and a half, because of the added choir anthem and formal processional.

  • Do you have a Christmas Eve choir?

Music has always been an important part of Advent's Christmas Eve services. The glorious organ and the joyful singing of the carols are integral to the entire worship experience, for members and for visitors.

In keeping with that, there will be a Christmas Choir at the 7:00 service helping to energize the hymns and to sing one anthem. The rehearsals are open to all and will be held on Wednesdays December 3, 10 and 17 from 3:00-4:00 pm in the sanctuary.

Please let Lori Jahn know if you are interested in participating or have questions!

  • Do you have a Christmas Day service?

We do not have Christmas day services - celebrate the joy and love of the season with your friends and family. Merry Christmas!

  • What should I wear?

Come exactly as you are - don’t dress up or down for anyone!

  • Can I come to church if I’m not Lutheran/not Religious?

Absolutely! All are welcome to join us, to come exactly as you are. This is a great place to come and just experience the love of God - even when you aren’t sure about what you believe.

  • Do you have hearing assistance devices?

    We do!

Our Hearing Assistance Devices are connected to our sound board, so that you hear everything directly from the microphones 👍

They are located in the back of the sanctuary (main worship space) to the left.

  • Will you stream your services?
